Glasgow - City of Sculpture

John Clinch
(1934-2001)

Born at Folkstone, Kent, he studied fine Art at Kingston School of Art, 1951-55, and sculpture at the Royal college of Art, 1957-61.

Awarded the Sir Richard Sainsbury Scholarship, 1962, and the winner of the Arts Council Major Award, 1979, he has participated in group exhibitions since 1960 and held his first one-man show in 1982. In 1989 he received the Welsh Arts Council Travel Award.

His multi-figure, polychrome group in glass reinforced polyester, Wish You Were Here (1983-4), was commissioned for the International Garden Festival at Liverpool.

His work in Glasgow is represented by Winchers Stance, Buchanan Bus Station (1994).

He was elected an ARBS and ARCA.
