Jack Faulds Sloan
(b. 1950)

Born in Motherwell, he studied interior design at GSA , 1967-72, winning the Sam Mavor Bequest, 1971.

He worked as a set designer for the BBC and as a community artist in Lanarkshire in the 1970s.

A lecturer in Art and Design at the Central College of Commerce since 1977, he received commissions for public work throughout the 1980s and 90s including, Commemorative Gates, Colinton Parish Church, Edinburgh, (1995), and the Civic Trust Award winning Apotheosis, Kilmarnock, 1995.

Collaborating with Hector McGarva as the fabricator of many of his works in Glasgow, these include:

The Window Grilles at St. Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art(1992); Cloudcatchers, Italian Centre (1993); Grasp The Thistle, Cruise, 180 Ingram Street (1994); Promethius - The Gift of Science To Liberty, University of Strathclyde, Taylor Street (1994); Fence and Gates, St. Nicholas Garden, Provand's Lordship (1994); The St. Rollox Monument, Springburn (1995); History of Scottish Theatre, Hospital Street (1995-8); Shopping Baskets, Gorbals (1996); and the Bandstand and Gates, Gorbals Park (c. 1999).

He has exhibited at RGIFA since 1980 including, The Fruiterer (1980); Tractor Study (1981); Sphinx for Oedipus (1982); and Cadzow Oak (1987).

He lives in Hamilton.
